The objective of the game is to be the last fortress standing after both stages. During Stage 1, build your fortress by collecting and placing resources. During Stage 2, eliminate other players by destroying their fortress.

How to play

Each player is randomly assigned a role along with its corresponding fortress. Play begins with a randomly selected player. The game is played in turns, progressing in clockwise order.

To view your hand: click on your face down stack of cards next to your fortress card (the white number in the top left corner indicates how many cards you have).

To view fortress resources: click on the Fortress Card (the white number fraction in the top left corner indicates how many resources the fortress has/requires). Players can view other fortresses.

The Game Log is displayed in the top right corner of the screen. Check the game log to see what is being played, discarded, traded, or stolen. The most recent action appears blue.

Click the “Back” button to exit any pop-ups like players hands, fortress resources, game log or trade offers.

Stage 1 - Fortify your fortress by collecting and placing resources (Building Round)

Each player’s turn is divided into three phases. Phases must be completed in order with trading occurring at any time:

  1. Play Resources

  2. Draw Two Cards

  3. Play an Action

BOB Rules 4.png

Place any number of resource cards onto your fortress using the “Play Resources” button (this phase can be skipped). Playing resources can only be done once during a player's turn and the resources played must match the type and amount specified by your fortress (e.g., the Castle requires one gold. You may not play two gold cards onto the Castle).

BOB Rules 5.png

Draw two cards by clicking the “Draw Two Cards” button or clicking the top of the draw pile.

BOB Rules 6.png

Play an action by clicking the “Play an Action” button and selecting any action card from your hand.

Trading

Players (at any point during their turn) can offer to trade resources with other players by clicking on the “Make An Offer” button. A player may select any number of resources from their hand and ask for any number of resources in return. Note, the resources do not have to be of the same type. If players have a trading offer waiting for them, the “Accept Offers” button will turn blue. Players click on the “Accept Offers” button to view the offer. (Hint - to play resources gained from trades, offers must be made and accepted prior to completing phase 1).

Stage 2 - Eliminate other players by destroying their fortresses (Battle Round)

Once any player completes their fortress, by playing all necessary resources onto it, Stage 1 ends and Stage 2 begins. Fortress resource icons will turn into hearts, representing lives. Any players without lives are eliminated. The player who completed their fortress starts and they select another player to battle.

During a battle, both players roll dice and the player with the lowest number loses a life. In the case of a tie, dice are rerolled. The battle winner chooses a new opponent. Battling continues until one fortress is left standing and a winner is crowned.

To start a battle, click on the “Choose Your Opponent” drop down menu and select the player's role that you want to battle. Click the “Roll” button to roll your dice. If you are challenged to battle a notifier will appear. Click the “Roll” button inside the notifier to roll your dice. If a tie occurs, the challenger clicks on the “Roll” button again, while the defender Clicks on the “Roll” button again inside the notifier when it reappears.

Fortress cards

There are six different fortress cards. Each fortress requires a unique combination of seven resources to complete. Resources on the fortress begin grey, and coloured when they are built.

Castle: Fabric x1, Gold x1, Steel x1, Stone x3, Wood x1.

Dojo: Clay x2, Fabric x2, Steel x1, Wood x2.

Observatory: Glass x2, Gold x2, Stone x3.

Pirate Ship: Fabric x2, Steel x2, Wood x3.

Rocket: Fabric x1, Glass, x2, Gold x1, Steel x3.

Saloon: Clay x2, Glass x1, Wood x4.

Resource cards

Resource cards are used to build fortresses, they can only be played on your turn during phase one. There are seven types of resource cards: Stone, Steel, Gold, Wood, Fabric, Clay, and Glass.

Action cards

All action cards are played into the discard pile. Action cards can only be played on your turn, except for the Curse and Shield. This section explains all the action cards in further detail.

Tax Collector: Draw two cards from the top of the deck.

Flood:    Pick a player by clicking on their role icon, then pick a resource type by clicking that resource card. The player must discard all cards of that resource they have in their hand.

Time Freezer Potion: Take another turn.

Thief: Steal a card at random from each player's hand.

Extra Pay: Search the deck and collect one resource of your choice and put it into your hand. Shuffle the deck afterwards.

Shield: You may play this card out of order to block any action effects, both you and your opponents, against you. If the action targets multiple players, then only the effects against you are blocked. A notification with a 10 second countdown will appear if you are able to play this card. Click “Yes” to play it or click “No” to save it. Waiting until the countdown timer ends will automatically save it too.

Poor Harvest: Force all players, including yourself, to discard cards from their hand by clicking on them until they have three remaining.

Kidnapped: Choose any opponent by clicking on their role icon. Their next turn is now skipped. Players can choose to skip another player who is already skipped, increasing the skip effect by an additional turn.

Curse: When you draw this card, it will immediately be discarded. You must pick one resource on your fortress to discard by clicking on it. If you do not have any resources on your fortress, this card has no effect, and you won’t get the option to discard.

General’s Order: Examine each player’s hand by clicking on their role icon. You may take any gold you find there by clicking on it.

Chapel Maintenance: Each player must give you one stone and one glass from their hand, or one of them if they don't have both, and nothing if they don't have either.
